Land Girls comes to Canadian audiences

The Land Girls comes to Canadian audiences via Sundance Channel (Canada) from June 6, 2010. The first episode will be on from 10:00 PM and various re-runs, then the next episode will be on the following Monday. Please make sure to check your local TV schedule for more detailed information. Land Girls, the five part British television series first broadcast on the BBC in 2009, makes its Canadian premiere this Sunday.

Created by Roland Moore, the show follows the lives and loves of four women in the Women’s Land Army (WLA), a British civilian organization created during the first and second world wars to work in agriculture; replacing men called up to the military.

 

Set on the Hoxley Estate, the woman balance their working lives at the run-down Pasture Farm, and the opulent Hoxley Manor. The drama follows the women as they try to live out their lives in very challenging circumstances.

Actors include Nathaniel Parker (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Bleak House), Christine Bottomley (Hope Springs, Massive, Early Doors), Sophie Ward (Holby City), Summer Strallen (Hollyoaks), Mark Benton (The Street), Danny Webb (Our Friends In The North), Jo Woodcock (Tess Of The D’Urbervilles, All The Small Things) and Becci Gemmell.

Despite being criticized in Britain for minor historical inaccuracies including many about military uniforms the show won the U.K. based Broadcast Award for Best Daytime Programme and has been commissioned for five new episodes due to be produced later this year in the UK.
