Watched the last in series of Me and Mrs Jones it has been fabulous. If the BBC does not renew this there's no justice. Friday nights will seem boring now(: very funny series :)

Dear all,

here's the BBC's response to the petition to bringback Me & Mrs Jones

Thank you so much for your passion and dedication in bringing this petition to our attention. All we can ever hope for as commissioners is for our shows to be beloved and connect strongly with viewers so it's really heartening to know that this is the case with ME & MRS JONES. It makes for very interesting reading and impressive to see what a global reach the show has enjoyed.

We share and acknowledge the view that the show is overwhelmingly appreciated by its many fans and there's a groundswell of opinion that would love to see a second series and beyond to see how these characters and their world unfurls and develops.

We go in to each series decision with a heart full of hope and excitement and it's such a painful and difficult decision whenever a series isn't taken forward, there are many factors brought to bear and viewing figures alone are not the full picture. As you know there is a tremendous amount of competition for slots on BBC1 as the nation's most successful channel for delivering comedy to as big an audience as possible. This means that we have to examine very carefully and seriously which shows can return and which shows don't quite make the cut for a second series. Not everything can return and we also need to offer up shows to our viewers who have an appetite for fresh and new propositions. We are eternally proud of ME AND MRS JONES, it is a brilliantly written, cast and produced show as many of the comments on the petition testify. With a very heavy heart we decided not to re-commission in this instance as ultimately we have a duty on BBC1 to serve as big an audience as possible and deliver a hit show that is well loved and as widely watched as Miranda and Mrs Brown's Boys. That sounds like viewing figures talk alone, but there's also the longevity of a project to consider and something as well conceived as ME AND MRS JONES has a wonderful hook in to it but ultimately didn't feel to us like a concept that engendered a long running series which would grow and grow over time.

Comedy is a very subjective area and whilst you may strongly and fundamentally disagree with that, we have to make hard choices between lots of very compelling projects.
We hope you continue to be a fan of BBC1 comedy and thank you for your time and fervour in highlighting your feelings about this show.

Yours sincerely,

Shane Allen
Controller Comedy Commissioning

That's all folks!

Cheers!
