David - on german TV was created by Martina2
For those who get the bibel.tv channel they are going to play David on the 21th and 22nd of September at 20:15.
It is not written on the bibel.tv website yet, but I´ve got an email reminder for Nathaniel Parker films in my online-tv-programmm ;o)

Hi Martina,

thanks for the heads up. This is quite a lavish production. Have you see it before? If not you're in for a real treat! I has been nominated of an Emmy years ago.

Cheers!

Haven´t seen it before and really looking forward to it.

By the way shall I put a new thread for each "Nat is on TV" or have we already got one topic for those? There are going to come some of them. Haunted Mansion next and of course the Lynley ones each Sunday.
Or is it not neccessary to post all TV-dates?

Done it ;o)
Not the sort of film I would normally watch I must admit.
First I found it difficult to jump into the story, but the bible is the bible is the bible.
Those things happening there thousands of years ago are not usual for a modern human mind. But I think they all did a good job describing the life, the feelings and the characters of the history. Maybe you have to watch it twice to understand the whole thing and catch the special shades of it.
At least I cried. That was such an emotional ending!

I really liked "Batseba" (David´s main wife), I think she is a very good actress aswell.

Hi Martina,

good that you've watched it. Like all stories of the Bible it is a very ancient tale so it hits on very ancient basic feelings and sentiments. I tend not to take Bible stories literally or think that they've happened exactly the way they were written, because I know too much of Bible history to understand that it has been altered a great deal and that lots of the book have been erased by the powers that were.

What remains is that they are basic stories on the human condition and in that I believe we haven't changed much. The way David desires a married wife, his betrayal, his murder of his rival.... a true crime story in fact. And his punishment! One of the ten commandments in perfect storytelling here: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour."

David is not just the hero for his people, he is also a sort of falling angle, because he betrays his god-given power and he thinks he can get away with it... well, what I like about David is that he's got his bright moments and his dark ones as well. I dislike characters who are always good or always evil. In this respect I like this production.

Cheers!

That was a real perfect storytelling "Breaking the Ten Commandments" as you say.

David said: "Bring me that man who did what you said and I will kill him" And the Prophet said "You were that man, my king".

Oops (of course he didn´t say oops!) This is exactly how it is (even today) . How easily you got your conviction in mind for the things other people do. And how it happens to be something completely different if you do them by yourself.

The bright moments and the dark ones ... were very authentic.
Considering all those aspects, a real good film. Thanks for opening my mind for this. I still think I have to watch it again some day, with different eyes.
