Finally...!! ILs no longer belong in the Unbelievability and Daftness Section of the Midsomer Murders category....

With Know Thine Enemy, it's morphed back into its former self, but even better - a proper, grown-up crime drama worthy of the name.

.....and Thomas Lynley is *finally* an authoritative and strong character....and with absolutely no baggage by way of silly, stupid romantic inferences or back story.

....credible fellow tecs doing proper detective work instead of 'make believe'...

...and Lafferty is there again doing 'serious' forensic work. Thank *heavens* for Lafferty - a 'real' pathologist who has something intelligent to add to the plot/story.

...and no bang, crash, 'same old same old' series finale where someone gets shot, or arrested... oh *yawn*

...ah but yet another numpty of an Assistant Commissioner...

... and still no hospital car parking reality - if only the writers would make their characters have to faff about paying a large sum of cash at a ticket machine, for the privilege of parking a good distance from the front door of the hospital, (presuming you can actually find a space at all!) - like the rest of us do!!

... but then James D'Arcy did an excellent sinister psycho - very very good.

I think this is quite possibly the best IL episode *ever*... B)

Hi Danny,

Can't say that it is or do you have to pay for something here that I'm unaware of?

Cheers!

Hi Pixie!!!

I only just saw this epi last evening (and now I added some stills). I completely agree with you. Finally The Inspector Lynley Mysteries "grew up" if you don't mind me saying this. No cosy crime solving, Lynley finally being a Chief Inspector worthy of his title. No romantic sub-plot, all is down to the nitty and gritty. B)

And what a story it is. Very very close to possible crimes, very haunting, very disturbing and very real. This isn't pure fun entertainment any longer - and I agree completely: Well done!

All I can say is: this is it, this is what a possible further development of this series could look like. Absolutely stringent script writing, very convincing and forceful. The characters matured a great deal over the last two specials - way to go... Lynley's no prince charming and Havers isn't the starry-eyed "hoping to have a romance with Lynley" girlie any more.

Sharon Small and Nat show a great deal of courage to take on with this kind of issue. They are *extremely* brave and *absolutely* fantastic. Both did a brilliant job in this one. More than ever: Hats off! And more like this *PLEASE*. :woohoo:

I'll post a bit more within the next days in the usual review section for the series. I do hope that Ginny will also soon be ready with her point of view. ;)

A very convinced Cheers! :cheer:
