Well well, a few hours after the last episode, recovering from the joy I had watching it. I was so excited about this episode, I had trouble calming down. Whatever those critics may say: They are on the wrong track here. It is classical "tounge in cheek", but WOT do I know about that? Besides, did I mention that IL3 will be broadcast on German ZDF from March 27? There are clips here running constantly. So far so good.
I think that this one has a rare new quality to it. Lynley and Havers finally seem to have an equal way of kidding with one another, which is a splendid thing to observe. And both Sharon and Nat had a ball with this script, that’s what I think, how could they not? I liked the way Havers finally breaks the mould, as well as Lynley does. They way they skirmish it’s just wonderful to see. I told you, I have a tendency to like a soft ironic prevailing mood. This one hit the nail straight on the head. Well mine anyway – or was it Lynley’s??? Alright I am still confused. This is a gem and if the scripts will develop like this, well go ahead, fine with me.
What’s to be said about Nat’s performance isn’t easy to describe – well “wooden” it is most definitely not. What I also liked about it was that cute way of helping a rather swamped fellow police officer. This scene “So suicide - OK” was just hilarious and new to my eyes! As for Nat wearing a jockey skull, hope he does that in private life, too. Better looking a bit silly while riding than after a fall for weeks or months, eh? A fall from a horse isn’t silly at all. Not to mention Christopher Reeve’s adventures with his love of horses here. Nat seemed to enjoy doing this episode, lots of word jokes, really wonderful to watch this. And it is good to observe that the series isn’t always taking itself seriously, although it really had it’s tragic moments when… well those who’ve seen it know what I mean, for those who will get to watch it: No spoilers here. Lynley1962 will write a detailed description (thanks for your efforts here). “Pasties” would have been the first thing on my mind after having been thrown out of bed in the middle of the night, stumbling through the woods and NOT having had the slightest chance for a proper breakfast. That’s where the best friendships end. My outmost and deepest sympathy, dear Barbara!
I really think it’s about time to write some letters to the editors. They are being biased and they are somewhat contradictory, right? I mean on one hand it’s Pick of the Day, on the other it all seems to be rubbish in their unfailing eyes. Oh what the heck, at least try to show some logic here. I for my own part will do that, alright a Kraut meddling with English newspapers – not exactly what I dream of doing, but at least I have some practise with other British institutions for that matter.
Yep, that was the guy from Vanity Fair. He was in one of Nat’s strongest scenes in that, that’s why his face and his VF character immediately came through as soon as I saw him in front of that stable.
Cheers!
