Top TV shows are competing against each other for the 2006 Banff World Television Awards, with nominations announced this Monday. The Banff fest, running June 11-14, 2006 in Alberta (Canada), has nominated 101 shows from 24 countries in 18 categories from more than 1,000 shows entered for consideration.

BBC and WGBH Boston are represented in the Best Mini Series category by their co-production "Bleak House,". It's up against the HBO Entertainment production in association with BBC "Rome"; French biopic from GMT Prods. "De Gaulle"; Sweden's "The Laser Man"; and BBC's "Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky."

The nominees, as well as the 18 “Best-of” category winners, are chosen by the BANFF Selection Jury. The BANFF International Jury meets for several days prior the Festival to screen the 18 category winners and ultimately decide the Grand Prize winner for the best overall program of the 2006 Banff World Television Awards.
