Harold Fry the hero of the book receives a letter from an old pal. The haven't met in twenty years. Queenie is dying of an incurable cancer. Harold writes to her, but instead of sending it, he finds himself on an unplanned journey from Dorset to the north of England – 500 miles. He makes this journey entirely on foot.

This remarkable journey will change him completely. Along his way he meets all kinds of people who are influencing the way he sees and feels his world while he's imagining that Queenie is still alive, waiting for his arrival.

About the Author

Rachel Joyce is a writer of over 20 original plays mainly for BBC Radio Four. In 2007 she won the Tinniswood Award for best radio play. She moved to writing after a twenty-year career in theatre, performing leading roles for the RSC, the Royal National Theatre, The Royal Court, and Cheek by Jowl, and winning a Time Out Best Actress award. Rachel lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and four children. This is her debut novel. She is currently working on her second novel entitled Perfect.
