Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity hosted a fantastic day of racing and VIP hospitality at the quintessential country racecourse in the heart of Sussex on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 11:00 to 17:00 (GMT).

Situated between the picturesque towns of Chichester and Arundel, Fontwell Park is long renowned for its tremendous hospitality and competitive racing.

On arrival all guests were guided to the new multi-million pound Premier Grandstand, where they enjoyed a champagne and canape reception in the hospitality suite. Before racing commenced guests enjoyed a three course lunch of peppered loin of lamb, lemon and raspberry posset, local cheeseboards and fine wine. The menu was exclusively designed by Fontwell Park's executive chef who carefully selected local ingredients from the area’s very best producers.

After lunch guests heard the story of patient 'Tick Tock Teddy'. Teddy shared his experience of VACTERL syndrome, a kidney transplant and living with a mechanical heart valve that makes a ticking noise, hence the name Tick Tock Teddy!

Throughout the day guests bid on some fantastic silent auction lots and Charlie Ross, the event's brilliant auctioneer, raised over £51,000 in the live auction, with a luxury yacht package selling for £23,000!

The champion tipster, jockey Andrew Thornton, and racing enthusiast host Nathaniel Parker guided the day's action, providing exclusive tips. With races at half-hourly intervals guests had plenty of time to mingle with fellow guests, see the runners and riders up close in the Parade Ring, and study form ahead of the next race. All of the day's races were kindly sponsored by Ladbrokes.

The day's host for this special event was the Reuben Foundation, which has had a distinguished association with Great Ormond Street Hospital for many years.

In October 2008 the GOSH opened The Reuben Foundation Children’s Cancer Centre. The centre has enabled Great Ormond Street Hospital to become the largest centre for paediatric cancer treatment in Europe and one of the top three centres in the world.

The racing industry has a long and proud history of raising substantial sums for good causes and the Reuben Foundation seeked to continue this tradition by hosting the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity Race Day at Fontwell Park.

With the help of the day's guests, sponsor and suppliers, and with money still coming in, GOSH has been able to raise an outstanding sum of money that is expected to reach £100,000!

All proceeds from Fontwell Park Race Day will go towards the Tick Tock Club to help raise £10 million to build an urgently needed new children's kidney centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

There is currently no cure for chronic kidney disease but thanks to medical advances at Great Ormond Street Hospital, children who would otherwise have died from kidney failure are now reaching adulthood.

The Tick Tock Club is a 'giving club' for people who are passionate about children's healthcare and making a real difference to the lives of thousands of children from across the UK and beyond.

With kind support of GOSH.
